Op. 47 – Dancing on Water

Clarinet in E flat, 2 clarinets in B flat, bass clarinet, marimba

Dancing on Water represents another step in the search for a new tonal language based on the 5-29 set. At the center of this energetic and virtuosic work is a chorale prelude on the hymn Fairest Lord Jesus, phrases of which are interspersed between canonic treatments of the main thematic material. Though not intended primarily as religious or liturgical music, this work will, I hope, convey a powerful and positive spiritual energy to the listener. This Jesus doesn’t just walk on water, he dances.
